The club can confirm that Allan Wheatley is to leave his position as Safeguarding Lead following ten years of dedicated service to Spennymoor Town.

Allan has played an integral part in the club’s youth development and has worked tirelessly behind the scenes as both a coach and Safeguarding Lead.

His recent work as the latter has ensured the safety and wellbeing of Spennymoor Town’s younger generation of players, allowing the rest of the set-up to run and develop efficiently.

Tony Wilson, Managing Director, said: “I was always told, leave something better than you were given it, and Allan has most definitely achieved that in terms of safeguarding policies and processes.

“Allan has achieved this by remaining focused and balanced and not wavering on the goals set, even through some tough times.

“We have been highly commended for the policies and procedures coupled with the training delivered by the games governing bodies, especially over the past year.

“I would like to thank Allan for his commitment, drive and professionalism he has given this club over the past 10 years, and we wish him all the success in the future as his business continues to grow.”

Andy Lowe, Head of Academy, said: “I would like to personally thank Allan for his unwavering commitment, loyalty and support to our academy safeguarding and welfare over the past two years.

“Allan has worked tirelessly, volunteering many hours of his time to ensure our safeguarding policies and procedures are robust and best in class and ensure the safety of our young people and coaches.

“Whilst we are sad to see him leave, it is fantastic to see the success Allan’s business is achieving and we wish him every success in the future.”

Former Head of Academy, Ryan Murray, who worked closely with Allan during his earlier days within the club, said: “When I met Allan ten years ago, it was clear he had a lot to offer the club.

“His impact since then has been exceptional, and many players and coaches have directly benefitted from his passion, professionalism and integrity. He has done a great job.”
